Just in time for March Madness, WOWK-TV will be offering the event in high-definition.
If you are hooked up to Charter Cable, you can catch the improved look with all of your other CBS favorites beginning next Thursday.
Bill Galloway is Director of Engineering for West Virginia Media Holdings, the parent company of WOWK-TV.
"You see a little bit more of the picture. And when it's true high-def, you get the panoramic view."
But in order to see it, you'll need a new TV that's digital *and* high definition-ready.
It's important to note that not all digital TVs are high definition-ready. And make sure you have a component-input, not just a video input.
Now you'll need more than just a brand new TV set to see us in high-definition.
If you're hooked up to cable, check first with your cable company to see if they offer high definition. Charter customers will need a new HD-ready cable box, along with special cables.
Shop around for the cables. The prices can vary.
You can also get the high-definition signal through an antennae. But don't expect your local programs, like news, to be in high def.
"Local programming won't be true high-def. It will be what's called "up-converted." says Galloway. "So there really won't be much difference, but you'll see a quality difference in the signal compared to high-def."
But when it's true high def, many customers say they won't go back to just plain old color TV.
Charter will start offering high definition next Thursday -- just in time for March Madness. Our high definition programming will be on channel 782 on Charter. Check with your local cable company for more information.
