Herd crushes NAIA's Brescia, 105-54

By Jared Fialko

HUNTINGTON -- He's been billed by many college basketball experts as, "the best player you've never heard of."

Hassan Whiteside is doing a good job of shedding the last part of that statement.

Marshall's freshman sensation dropped a triple-double on Brescia on Wednesday night, the first in school history, as the Herd steamrolled the NAIA opponent, 105-54.

Whiteside finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and an astounding 11 blocks.

The seven-foot star was just one of seven Herders to finish with double digit scoring tallies.

Shaquille Johnson, Damier Pitts, Antonio Hayman, Cam Miller, Tyler Wilkerson, and Chris Lutz also netted at least 10 points.

Miller was perfect from the floor.

The Wheelersburg, Ohio-native shot 6-of-6, including drilling all four of his three-point attempts.

It was just par for the course, on an incredibly hot shooting night for the Herd.

Marshall shot 61.5 percent from the floor, 55.6 percent from three-point land, and a nearly perfect, 93.8 percent from the free-throw line.

The Herd actually trailed a few minutes into the game, 17-14, before ripping off a 27-5 run.

From there, Donnie Jones's crew never looked back, taking a 51-28 lead into the locker room.

With the win, Marshall improves to 8-1 on the season.

The Herd get back to action this Dec. 20 against High Point.

Tip time at the Cam Henderson Center is set for 2 p.m.
