Two bank robbery suspects were killed and two Westminster, Colo. police officers were injured in a shootout Nov. 19.
Milton native and Senior Police Officer Sean Chandler and Deputy Chief Tim Carlson, were hurt after a chase.
Chandler is the son of Cabell County Circuit Clerk Adell Chandler. He graduated from Milton High School and served as a deputy with the Cabell County Sheriff's department for four years before moving to Colorado.
The crime scene included a white white vehicle that apparently belonged to the two suspects, who apparently tried to rob a 1st Bank at 120th and Sheridan. That vehicle had dozens of bullet holes.
Several minutes later a Westminster officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the Safeway parking lot near 104th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects refused to pull over and began shooting at officers as they tried to get away.
Westminster police used a maneuver to spin out the car and end the pursuit.
Once the police rammed and disabled the suspects' car, a tremendous gun battle broke out.
The male driver was killed in the shootout. The female passenger in the car was hurt. She was transported to Saint Anthony's Central Hospital and later died from her injuries. Neither suspect has been identified.
Officer Chandler was shot in the hip and transported to Saint Anthony's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Chandler has been with the Westminster Police Department since 1998.
Carlson was also struck by a bullet during the shooting. Carlson has been with the Westminster Police Department since 1987.
No one inside the bank was hurt. The suspects did leave the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The FBI is investigating the shootout.
