DINGESS --  West Virginia State Police are charging an 18-year-old Mingo County resident in connection with the vandalism of an electrical transformer that left thousands of people without electricity.

Steven Spry, of Verdunville, is being accused of giving false information to an officer during an investigation.

American Electric Power said someone shot the transformer in Dingess, which caused the power outage.

The company said it will cost approximately $1 million to replace the equipment.
