HUNTINGTON -- One of the most prolific players in Marshall history has had his college career cut short.
Cody Slate will miss the final two games of the season, after the results of his MRI revealed that he sustained damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Herd's leading receiver suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Nov. 14 loss to Southern Miss.
Slate just made the cut as a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, presented to college football's top tight end.
Slate caught 50 passes for 603 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.
Coach Mark Snyder said it's a shame that Slate's career concludes this way, but he's keeping a positive attitude.
"He told his mom yesterday, 'I am a captain of this team,'" Snyder said in Tuesday's press conference. "I'm sticking around with this team to see this thing through."
