INSTITUTE -- COURTESY: WV STATE SPORTS INFORMATION

West Virginia State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in rolling to a 115-78 win over Salem in Fleming Hall Monday to wrap-up the John Dickensheets Classic.

Bellarmine defeated Hillsdale 76-68 in the night's first game.

Senior Darren Jones led the scoring with 35 points as the Yellow Jackets (2-0) once again received offensive contributions from several players.

The guard trio of Jones, junior Cookie Miller, and Bo King dominated the Tigers from the outset coming up with 18 steals and forcing the visitors into 27 total turnovers.

Jones added eight assists and six steals while Miller scored 13 points and also had eight assists. King picked up three fouls but still managed to hit for 16 points in just 15 minutes of action.

Fred Harris also had a big night for WVSU with 14 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocked shots.

The Jackets play at home again next Tuesday, November 24th, at 7:30 p.m. against West Virginia Wesleyan.
