CHARLESTON -- Although it may not feel like Christmas outside — the city of Charleston is getting ready for Christmas shoppers.

On Nov. 16, City Council again voted to approve its "Citizen Appreciation Parking" for the holiday season.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 28, all metered on-street parking downtown will be free of charge through Christmas.

It's an effort to boost business is the downtown district, while spreading the holiday cheer.

To whom it should concern,

In response to your article regarding free parking in downtown Charleston. I parked downtown this morning to pick up a few items and got a ticket. It seems the free parking deal is limited to Saturdays only. The lack of details, I am sure, has just paid for the one thousand dollar loss in revenue in one day. The City Clerk responded to me that ‘Maybe the media should have been informed.”

Now, I am off with the sixteen others (my count) from Capitol Street with tickets to pay for this blunder.
