CLARKSBURG -- Not too long ago, lots of people took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers Program.
Now the government is gearing up to start a Cash for Appliances rebate program, which will once again put cash back into the hands of the consumer.
Energy Star appliances run more efficiently than other appliances, and the state is doing what it can to encourage people to buy energy efficient household items.
"They're offering no sales tax on all energy star appliances," Lowe's Sale Specialist Justin Phillips said. "Every major retailer is doing this until Nov. 30."
The tax-free offer isn't the only government promotion on energy star appliances. The federal government has set aside $300 million for a rebate program that offers up to $200 back when you trade in your old appliances.
"It's going to be similar to cash for clunkers," said Phillips. "They're wanting to promote the energy star appliances."
Phillips said even without the government offers and promotions people are taking a serious look at more energy efficient home appliances.
"Folks are wanting to be environmentally friendly and save a little money for themselves. Its always nice when you can save a little money."
