BLACKSVILLE -- On Friday night, Clay-Battelle High School ended Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its own effort for the cause. the Varsity Cheerleaders spear-headed the event and the excitement spread quickly.
"I just mentioned it at a parent meeting one night and said we should cheer in pink t-shirts and it just went crazy. The student body wanted to be involved, the football team and it's just been really great," says Head Cheerleading Coach Nikki Mattingly.
The CeeBees went pink starting at school during the day and the hype flowed into Friday night under the lights, while the football team battled Notre Dame.
"It was really great to see because even students that aren't even normally involved in activities wore their pink today in support of the cause," says Student Body President Brittany Martino.
Cheerleaders collected money for glow necklaces, stickers and pink ribbons. Donated breast cancer items were raffled off and the football team even decorated their feet in pink.
"I think it says a lot about Clay-Battelle and the community and how much that they can pull together and do something big like this. And I'm hoping that other schools, next year, will catch onto this and in the month of october puck a game or event and do this as well," says Mattingly.
Coach Mattinly says the CeeBees have definitely started a tradition.
