CABIN CREEK -- Kanawha County's Clean-Up site in Cabin Creek is open for business for the second Saturday in a row. It closed early last Saturday due to stormy weather.
"We opened this one back up for 4 hours. It's what we lost last week here due to the weather, so we wanted to make sure the people of Eastern Kanawha County has an opportunity to throw away everything they needed too," says David Armstrong, Director of Planning and Development for Kanawha County.
Many took advantage of the opportunity.
"Makes it a whole lot more easier than going all the way to Kanawha City to dump. Saves a whole lot of gas," says Dick Gilmore of East Bank.
The special drop-off site along with the regular scheduled clean-up site in Sissonville are the last ones of the year. The county has 7 over the course of the year, total cost is over $100,000. At each clean-up the county partners with a recycling company, items dropped off that cannot be recycled are taken to the landfill.
"They actually give the county a little bit of money for whatever we recycle, and the county turns around and gives that money to the solid waste authority to operate the things they do for the county," says Armstrong.
Plus, it take about 80 workers to operate one scheduled clean-up site.
