A tanker truck carrying a hazardous material called acetic acid rolled through a guardrail Sunday morning closing the road for several hours.
Employees at a nearby business were sent home for the day because of safety concerns.
The tanker was on its way to the Dupont Plant in Belle.
Tom Keifer, the leader of Dupont's Emergency Response Team says the material smells like vinegar and is a basic building block for processing at the plant.
"Its no worse than dropping vinegar to the ground," said Keifer when asked if the substance could be dangerous if it leaked.
"The Department of Environmental Protection doesn't like anything to get on the ground so from that stand point we're gonna keep it off the ground. But its not a real strong environmental concern."
None of the acetic acid leaked in the accident.
Hazardous material crews transferred the contents from the wrecked tanker to another truck sent from the Dupont Plant.
Acetic acid is classified as a hazardous material by the Department of Transportation.
The driver of the tanker was taken to the hospital with broken bones.
State Police plan to cite the driver with failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
