U.S. Postal Services Expected to Close Hundreds of Offices

More than 700 offices are listed for review across the nation. Five of those offices are in Charleston.

CHARLESTON -- The U.S. Postal Service is facing staggering losses.

According to CBSNews.com,officials have sent a list of nearly 700 offices and stations to be reviewed by the Independent Postal Regulatory Commission.

Those on the list from Charleston are the Capitol Station, Marmet Station, Spring Hill Station, Station C, and Stonewall.

Last year mail volume fell by 9.5 billion pieces and it's expected to fall by 28 billion pieces this year.

They are going to close the Kanawha City Post Office Too. They are all going to be combined into one big Post Office, located on Lee Street. This is the Building that was being used as the Encoding Center, also known as the Rec Site.

StoneWall, Kanawha City, South Charleston will all be one Station. Those are all buildings that the P.O. are currently LEASING and it is costing them 10's of thousands of $$$ every Month. By closing these offices and putting them into a building that is owned by the P.O. they get rid of that cost .

Isn't it convenient that the most used station (next to the main office) is on the closing list. Once again the West Side gets screwed. Close the Kanawha City office instead.
