Huntington -- If you thought things were a little more "comfortable" this July than usual, you were not mistaken. In fact, a few days in July have been called downright "cold" by some.

Official climate numbers just tallied by the National Weather Service show Huntington recording it's coldest July since record keeping began in 1897. The previous record was tied between 1963 and 1967.

Charleston meanwhile tied for it's second coldest July on record. The coolest was 1967 and the tie is shared with July 2000.

Beckley experienced it's second coldest July on record and Parkersburg had it's third coldest July. Cincinnati also had it's coldest July on record as did Jackson in eastern Kentucky.

The cool weather has been a bonus for lawns and lawn care companies but some farmers have told 13 News that some of their crops have not responded well and some area pools are behind on the number of customers.

Stormtracker 13 Chief Meteorologist Spencer Adkins says the cool weather in our region is the result of a persistent pattern of cool air pressing in from the northwest. Adkins also notes that while we were setting records for cool weather, the opposite has been true in the northwest where searing heat has been baking places like Seattle.

As for the coming week, Adkins says temperatures are expected to be much closer to normal despite continued chances of showers.
