Police not sure if cruiser was a target, or if it is an accident.

ST. ALBANS -- Police are investigating an incident police cruiser that was shot.

While driving in St. Albans, Lt. Mike Matthews had his rear cruiser window shot out with some sort of projectile Sunday Morning.

According to police, it wasn't a rock, as one wasn't found inside the cruiser. Lt. Matthews, who was not injured, was on the way to call when it happened around 4:19 a.m. on Kanawha Terrace in the area of Vine Street and Observatory Drive.

The area was quickly flooded with police in an effort to find a suspect. This included many units from Nitro PD and the Kan Co Sheriff's Department. It is unknown if the police car was specifically targeted, or the offender were simply shooting at what they thought was just any passing car.

Lt. Matthews did not hear a gun shot, and no reports of gun shots were received by Metro 911. Police believe a pellet gun was involved. Several people were interviewed in the area, but no suspect were arrested.

If anyone has any information regarding this inciden, the are asked to call SAPD at (304) 727-2251.
