HUNTINGTON --  It has become a controversial topic in the the City of Huntington.

And when it comes to tethering dogs, one groups says enough is enough.

A group of concerns citizens chained themselves to posts and trees in Ritter Park Sunday afternoon.

The demonstration was in support of a proposed ordinance banning the tethering of pets in inclement weather.

The ordinance has had some difficult time getting through city council. The dog tethering ordinance narrowly passed first reading during the previous council meeting.

It will be discussed again in the first meeting in July.

It seems really strange to see people chained up like dogs, but when I think about it, how many other kinds of animals can you drive down a neighborhood block and see chained up to a wooden or plastic box in the yard all day and night? Besides the fact that we are just used to it because it's been the norm, when you think about it, you just don't see a lot of horses, cats, whatever chained in yards on tethers they never come off of. If we weren't used to seeing it we'd realize how odd it is in itself.

Thank you Monica ~ So many uncaring , heartless IDIOTS out there just dont care enough to find out so make really stupid remarks ~ God Bless you for caring and telling it like it is ! THIS is what should be printed in the paper & told on tv and it would be so EASY to enforce if it was from 10PM TO 8AM along with the noise ordinence ~ The selfish , uncaring people just WANT to chain those precious animals so fight it any way they can !

To be clear, what Dogs Deserve Better is fighting against is not the occasional tethering of a dog, say for a few hours at a time. Rather, DDB is trying to draw attention to the abusive practice of 24/7 lifetime or longterm chaining of a social, intelligent animal.
