Evans -- Some Jackson County educators want to make sure their students know who can help them in case of an emergency.
Students at Evans Elementary have been studying community helpers, and today they found out who their community helpers are.
The Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department and Jackson County E-M-S put on demonstrations for the students. Besides re-enforcing what they learned in the classroom, school administrators hopes the event gets rid of any fears of emergency responders.
"The children need to know who their community helpers are. Who are safe people to ask for help so if something would happen to them these people would come in these kinds of uniforms and they wouldn't be afraid of them," says Barbara Upton, Principal of Evans Elementary
Students also got a lesson on fire safety and what to do in case of a fire.
