The new, Bridge of Honor, is already open to traffic
POMEROY, OH -- On Thursday May 28, 2009 between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, (weather permitting) the Ohio side of the Pomeroy-Mason Bridge will fall. Fifty charges are set and ready to blast the last remaining span onto Main Street.
Crews will lay a crane mat and two-and-a-half feet of dirt to protect the pavement on Main Street. Main Street will be closed for twenty-four hours from the stop light at the Bridge of Honor to Autozone to allow for cleanup. There will be a 1,500 foot "clear zone" radius from the bridge. Only authorized personnel are allowed in the clear zone. The Bridge of Honor and all surrounding roads within the clear zone will be closed five minutes prior to detonation and should be opened within fifteen to thirty minutes after detonation.
Built in 1928, the old Pomeroy-Mason Bridge became obsolete and has recently been replaced by the new Bridge of Honor, which opened for travel on December 30, 2008.
