WHEELING -- Ethiopian Mohammed Awol easily won the 33rd annual Ogden 20K in a time of 1:06:43. The 30-year old clocked a pace of 5:23 per mile through the windy hills of Wheeling.
31-year old Rikki Hacker of Kansas City, Missouri finished second in a time of 1:11:45 in his first visit to Wheeling. He was five minutes and two seconds behind Awol. Hacker, who ran at the University of South Florida, also took second in the Ogden Mile which was run on Friday night. Awol and Hacker were the only two runners who ran a sub-six minute pace per mile.
John Brockenbrough, 50 years-old from Murraysville, PA, finished third overall with a time of 1:14:45. Mike Seymour of Akron, OH was fourth in a time of 1:15:14.
Wheeling native Ryan Gundling, who now lives in Pittsburgh, PA, finished ninth overall with a time of 1:18:58. Gundling is a 1998 Wheeling Central High School graduate and finished third in the Ogden Mile on Friday evening.
Sean Flanagan, who resides in Valley Grove, WV, finished 11th overall clocking in with a time of 1:20:13.
28-year old Alemtsehav Misganawa of Ethiopia was the fastest woman finishing with a time of 1:14:53. She was followed by fellow 28-year old, and Ethiopian Rahab Ndunga, who ran a time of 1:15:33.
A total of 1,029 runners and walkers participated in the 20K and 5K Runs and Walks.
