The flooding stranded several in the houses, forced emergency crews to do water rescues and promted drivers to take detours.

KANAWHA COUNTY -- In Kanawha County, Metro 911 have been taking calls about flooding all day Monday.

And city crews have been working non stop to clear the roadways, remove debris and keep the community safe.

On Smith Creek Road in the Tornado area, firefighters were called out for a couple water rescues after motorists tried driving through the water.

On 40th Street in Nitro, a small colvert bridge was washed away, stranding nine families on the other side of the creek.

And around Kapok and Fredrick Streets, yards have turned into lakes.

And while residents say by now, they're used to it happening, it's still frustrating.

"This is awful. I mean we have rats swimming in our backyard, the sewer backs up you can't use the toilet, can't let me dogs out to go to the bathroom it's nothing but a muddy wet mess," explained Nitro Resident, Danielle Bodkin.

At Lute Supply Company, also in Nitro, water this morning had filled the parking lot and was inching it's way closer and closer to the facility itself.

Many area roadways were so flood covered, drivers were forced to find alternate routes.

But motorists in many of those areas say, they're so used to it happening after a heavy rain, they know all the tricks to navigate around.

The rain has held off for the majority of the afternoon...and that's helped some spots start drying out.

But with rain in the forecast for the rest of the week, residents are staying on alert.

As is Metro 911, and they continue to remind motorists not to drive through standing water.
