HUNTINGTON -- Two Wayne County men face five years in federal prison for stealing mail.
Matthew Pennington, 28, of Genoa, pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to aiding and abetting the theft of mail.
The conviction stems from an investigation conducted by the US Postal Inspection Service.
On October 25, 2008, Pennington and another man, Edward Junior Jackson, disabled a truck carrying United States mail along Route 52 in Prichard.
The two then took four bags of mail containing almost $14,000. Jackson previously pled guilty for his role in the mail theft, admitting he sabotaged his Postal Service contract route truck by cutting the gas line and rendering the vehicle disabled.
During a subsequent investigation, Jackson lied to investigators about his conduct before confessing to his involvement.
Pennington will be sentenced Aug. 3. Jackson will be sentenced May 26. Both face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
