MONTGOMERY -- More than 3,000 Appalachian Power customers were without electricity shortly before noon Wednesday.

Customers in eastern Kanawha County and Fayette County were affected.

A spokesperson for the power company says the outage was the result of a transmission line being down.

West Virginia University Institute of Technology canceled classes because of the outage.

At noon, crews are on the way to repair the line and the spokesman said power could be restored before 1pm.
