Charleston -- A Beckley singer and her band are on their way to performing in Washington, DC for this year's inaugural festivities.
Lady D wrote the song "Go Higher" after being inspired by Barack Obama. In an online contest, the song was chosen Best Obama Inaugural Song, and now "Lady D" and her band will perform it in Washington during the inauguration.
Since they will not be paid for the performance, the Charleston Blues Society held a fundraiser this afternoon to help with trip expenses.
"This is the biggest thing that ever happened to be in my entire life. I know how historic this event is and I was planning on staying at home and watching it on television. I never imagined I'd be there," says Lady D.
Lady "D" says her band will perform at an inaugural ball on January 19th in Washington, but some people are working to get her and her band into the Main Inaugural Ball on January 20th.
