Charleston -- An Alzheimer's patient who wandered away from a Charleston nursing home was struck and killed by a train early Sunday morning.
George King, Sr. was noticed missing from Heartland of Charleston Nursing Home around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Charleston police searched the area for him for several hours.
But just after midnight Sunday morning King was hit by a CSX train.
Jane Marks with the West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association says cases like this aren't unusual.
"This happens daily," Marks said. "Unfortunately this situation was more dramatic and had a sad ending, but it does happen constantly."
Heartland of Charleston released a statement saying per company policy an internal investigation is being conducted about the incident.
