Poca -- Paving their driveway sounded great to the Arthur's of Poca. A group that had some extra asphalt stopped by the couple's home. They put the asphalt on the drive way. The couple then paid in advance for the work with the assurances from the group they would return, which did not happen.
"I just couldn't hardly take it. I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. I wouldn't have minded if they would have come back and finished, not mind paying, but they never showed up," says Patricia Arthur of Poca.
The couple lost $6,600 dollars in the scam.
"It takes a lot out. We had it in savings if anything happened, emergencies come up. Now it's not there.
The group did not finish the job, so the family has found a legitimate company to come in and complete this work for hopefully as little money as possible.
"If someone just shows up at your door wanting to do this, get some information from them, call me and we'll check," says Putnam County Sheriff Mark Smith,
The Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, but Sheriff Smith admits there's little to go on.
"The kind of people that would scam older folks like that there's a special place for those people," says Sheriff Smith.
Meanwhile life continues for the Arthur's as they hope and pray the group that took their money will do the right thing.
