CHARLESTON -- West Virginia's Republicans are holding their first state convention to coincide with the biggest primary election day of the campaign.
A former executive director for the Mountain State's Grand Old Party says the idea of a convention didn't sit well with a lot of people.
"I can remember people saying 'you'll never get 1,000 republicans in a room,'" said former WV GOP president Gary Abernathy. "Guess what? It's going to happen."
These are the numbers being released the state republican party.
* 537 delegates have been elected;
* 472 are coming from county executive committees;
* 106 are coming from the State Executive Committees;
* 36 Republicans are coming from the State Legislature;
* And the highest ranking, elected republican in State Government, Betty Ireland, WV Secretary of State.
The voting will happen Tuesday, February 5 at the Charleston Civic Center. Abernathy says the candidate who wins the convention, essentially win's West Virginia's republican delegation.
Those results are expected be the first reported returns on Super Tuesday.
