LOGAN -- Another of the six suspects accused of holding a Charleston woman hostage and torturing her for several weeks waived his preliminary hearing.
On Friday, George Messer, 27, waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Messer and the five other suspects face numerous charges, including rape, kidnapping and sexual assault, after police said they tortured Megan Williams for several days earlier this month.
One of the suspects, Karen Burton, has yet to go through the preliminary hearing process.
On Wednesday, Bobby Brewster waived his hearing. He now faces charges of kidnapping, first degree sexual assault and malicious wounding. He still faces life in prison.
A preliminary hearing for another suspect, Alisha Burton, was also waived that day.
Several defense attorneys are already voicing concerns about their clients' chances for a fair trial.
"I mean I sit down and I hear people talking about this case like how can we hurt them. How can we do this and that scares me. This is a democracy," said Mark Hobbs, Alicia Burton's attorney
Karen Burton's attorney voiced similar concerns.
"The other day I even heard one woman say these people should be taken out and beaten to death in a field and left for the dogs to eat them and that's before we even have a preliminary hearing," said Betty Gregory.
Some attorneys say they plan to file for a change of venue, but the county prosecutor says it won't be that easy.
"I can't think of a case in eight to 10 years where I've had an actual change of venue and we've had individual attorneys who've requested it who've received a lot of media attention so again, you have to make a stronger showing than it's been in the media," said Logan County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Abraham.
On Monday, another of the six suspects waived his preliminary hearing.
Abraham said that the case of Danny Combs has been bound over to the grand jury.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, Combs stabbed 20-year-old Megan Williams in her left leg, forced her to perform oral sex on him and threatened to kill her if she tried to leave a Big Creek home.
Karen Burton, 46, was also scheduled for a preliminary hearing that day, but her attorney has requested that magistrate judge Leonard Codispoti remove himself from the case.
One of the defendants, Frankie Brewster, already had her case bound over to the grand jury.
The Logan County Prosecutor upgraded charges against most of the suspects this week. Each suspect faces at least one count of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping.
If convicted, they could spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
