Prices at the pump are costing some drivers more than just a fill up.
Story by Craig McKee
HUNTINGTON -- iphoning devices are readily available over the counter and awaiting car gas tanks that tanks no protection, but there are ways to protect yourself.
Locking gas caps aren't new, but it seems when prices go up, many search out a way to keep the thieves out of their tank.
But it's not just your gas tank you have to worry about protecting. With gas prices going up, license plates are disappearing off the back of cars. Thieves are using the stolen plates in gas drive offs.
Billy Jordan is one of the latest victims.
"I walked out there and looked and whole thing was gone," said Jordan.
Jordan's granddaughter hasn't seen her plate in weeks, but police have.
"They got it twice in Cattletsburg filling up with gas and driving off and they never did find out who had it," Jordan adds.
Drive offs are becoming a daily occurrence...Wednesday a man bolted with a full tank from Speedway and now many stations are switching to pre-pay only.
There are security bolts available for a few bucks to make it more difficult to steal the plate.
With no price relief in sight a few extra security options might be your only hope to combat the crime wave.
By the way you can pick up a locking gas cap between 10 and 17 dollars. While security bolts for your plates will cost you three to four dollars.
