Police await confirmation from medical examiner

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman beaten to death with a farm tool over the weekend was pregnant, her mother said.

Lucy Barker said her daughter Lisa Pierson was at least five months pregnant.

Pierson, 39, and her daughter Casey Barker, 20, were found beaten to death inside their Campbells Creek home Sunday afternoon.

Pierson’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in South Charleston. Police are still waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine if she was pregnant.

Investigators said two counts of first-degree murder charges may be filed against Stanley Pierson, Lisa's husband and Barker's stepfather, as early as Wednesday.

State Police are gaurding the suspect's room at Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital. He is being treated for a shoulder injury and hypothermia after it is believed he jumped off the Yeager Bridge.
