54-year-old Ronald Alonso, a retired Clarksburg Police officer, confessed in federal court to having sexually explicit images of minors on his home computer.
Story by Sarah Kapis
Alonzo used to be a police officer for the city of Clarksburg, but on February 7th, 2006, while he was still employed with the city, he made the confession.
The FBI launched an investigation.
On Thursday, Alonso pleaded guilty in District Judge Irene Keeley's courtroom as part of a plea agreement. He faces one felony count of possession of child pornography.
The FBI's review of the computer determined that Alonso was involved in receiving and sendnig pictures of children under the age of 18 in attachments through emails.
Judge Keeley said she is waiting on a pre-sentence report before she will sentence him.
The court ordered Alonso to stay away from places that involve children such as playgrounds and schools and also prohibited him from using a computer.
The parties recommended between 46 and 78 months in jail. However, Judge Keeley will have the final say, total liability could be up to 10 years in prison. Judge Keeley also said the sentencing in this case could be based on the number of depictions, type of pictures and ages of the children. Alonso's sentencing date will be sometime in the fall.
