School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean kids are staying home doing nothing.
Summer camps are in full swing this week all over the state. And while kids still learn the basic life skills, camps aren't just offering the basics anymore.
For example, at Camp Virgil Tate in Kanawha County, kids go through the rigors of fun, discipline and team building.
"4-H brings everyone together. So you get different walks of life and you get different aspects. So, it's a really a different view you can learn through." says 21-year old David France. The Belle, West Virginia native has been attending camp here for 11 years and is now a junior at West Virginia State.
He's not the only veteran camper. Jocelyn Ferrell of Elview also has been attending camp since she was nine-years old. "I've done lots of community service projects through 4-H and also through my church and also through the American Red Cross. So everything I've learned here at camp, I've been able to use in my everyday life."
Camp Virgil Tate also hosts a Horse Camp. About 70 kids from across West Virginia get to saddle up and learn all things equestrian, including how to sharpen their showmanship skills
Not only are there camps dedicated to horses, but there ar also hundreds of other specialty camps, like summer baseball camps and football camps.
Just take a look on the Internet at "my summer camps.com." There are academic and pre-College camps, adventure Camps, arts Camps, religious camps, special needs camps and sports camps.
After all this camping, kids may want to go back to school -- just to some rest.
Now, many camps already are full, but you may be able to find a camp still taking applications.
By the way, the University of Charleston is offering a Football Camp in July and WVU -- summer baseball camps.
