The State Journal is proud to present the first annual Students of Excellence Awards. This fall, The State Journal will honor 55 exceptional young men and women with the Students of Excellence Award. The awards program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in a public or private school or in a home school setting in West Virginia. These awards will honor students who are dedicated to their schools and their communities. While these are not academic awards, all students must be in good academic standing. A GPA must be included and will be verified. The GPA will be part of the overall process. However this award will honor students who are working to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.
HOW THE NOMINATION PROCESS WORKS
The student you are nominating is eligible if:
They are a 12th grade student during the 2009/2010 school year
They are a resident of West Virginia
They are enrolled in a public, private or in home school setting
They are in good academic standing.
Use the checklist below to determine the focus of your nomination.
Please remember that these are not academic awards although academic achievement will be considered in the process. Nominations will be considered based on the student’s unique achievements.
Each nomination can include one or more of the following contributions:
Civic/Volunteer involvement
Leadership positions held
Work/entrepreneurship
Youth groups/scouts/church involvement
Sports
Extracurricular activities/clubs
Academic achievement
Other awards received
Other special interests/talents
Complete the nominations form and all supporting materials and submit them to The State Journal by Friday, October 9, 2009
A complete nomination will include:
Nomination Form
Nominator Narrative
Statement of Future Intent
Letter of Recommendation (if applicable)
We are not currently accepting nominations for Students of Excellence 2009.
