Steve McGehee joined the 13 Sports team in July of 1998. In November of 2000, Steve took over as the Sports Director of WOWK. His road to West Virginia is a long one.
Steve was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University, receiving a bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree, with an emphasis in Radio/TV. His first TV internship came after college, interning in the WDAF Sports Department in Kansas City and KAKE in Wichita, Kansas.
His first job in TV, came at KAKE as a part time Sports Producer. Then in December of 1991, Steve got the call he had been waiting for. He landed a full time job at KTVE in Monroe, Louisiana. He spent 3 years in Monroe, leaving as their Weekend Sports Anchor.
It was onto the beach after the bayou, Steve accepted the Weekend Sports position at WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina. He enjoyed his stay at the beach. He covered Dean Smiths' Retirement Press Conference and countless trips to Winston Cup Qualifying events, highlighted his stay. In 1997 he helped WWAY win a AP Award for best Sportscast.
Steve currently lives in Huntington and he loves to golf. NASCAR and Golf Tournaments are his 2 favorite sports to cover. His dream is to cover the Masters and hopefully a Mens Final Four. He just missed out in 1999, when Kentucky lost Michigan State in the Regional Finals.
